Update on Brown County Biking Initiatives...

(Note from BSBC: this is from Becky Meert, one of our club members and one of Brown County's biking advocates for us all):

Hi all –

There are three exciting things happening with bicycle transportation in Brown County this spring that you should know about ---

The Bicycle Transportation Map is still out there and for sale. For all the info you need on the map--- go to the Brown County Planning Department webpage at: http://www.co.brown.wi.us/departments/page_40d3254bef0d/?department=2317176c7f00&subdepartment=bc2d35fa4859

The list of sites selling the maps is here. For the first time you can also view the map on-line. You can print off smaller segments of the map for short trips from the site, but you need the full map to get the most info from it.

(Note from BSBC: Dawn Goodman, the Bay Shore Bicycle Club PR Chairperson, is selling them this year at the weekly rides and events).

All proceeds from the sales this year and last year will go to update the map and make it better in 2011! In order for the updated map to be produced in 2011, we need to support the existing map by buying it.

Bicycle Education Courses will be held this spring (Note from BSBC: Weds. nights May 19th & 26th Bay Shore Bicycle Club will offer these courses). This is your chance to learn how to ride your bicycle for more than just recreation. Why put your bike on a rack and gas up your car to get to a trail, when you can just ride your bicycle out of your driveway and get where you need to go?! Learn the skills you need by attending one of the classes.

Law Enforcement training in Bicycle and Pedestrian safety will be offered through NWTC this spring for local police departments. Better trained officers can help enforce laws that enhance the safety of bicyclists and pedestrians. But beware they will also be talking to bicyclists and pedestrians about doing the right things… not just auto drivers!

I hope everyone is happy that the hints of spring are now in the air. Get out there and enjoy it from the seat of your bicycle!

Becky
