Please know that the Bay Shore Bicycle Club is NOT sponsoring this event. This info is being shared just in case you are interested:

My name is Erik Mathy. I'm a Green Bay native (West DePere Class of 1990, in fact) currently residing in Alameda, CA. This upcoming weekend we're having two cancer fundraiser cycling events. One on Friday night in Marinette and the other Saturday morning in Green Bay. We've arranged for screenings of Ride the Divide, the documentary of the 2008 edition of the Tour Divide.

It's a pretty amazing movie about what is arguably the hardest mountain bike race in the world. Participants ride offroad over 2,700 miles from Banff, Canada to the U.S. - Mexico border completely self supported. There are no teams, no support cars, no chefs, no mechanics. They carry their own gear, find their own food in the little mountain towns and deal with whatever comes their way.

In June of 2011 I am going to be lining up at the start line of the Tour Divide on a Salsa Fargo converted to a singlespeed. I'm not racing the Tour Divide to win or to set any records. I'm racing the Tour Divide to fight cancer. There is an entire generation of men in my family that have been wiped out by cancer. While the old adage "Time heals all wounds" may sound great, the reality is that this wound only gets larger. Those men have left behind nearly 50 children who will never know their Grandfathers. Think about that for a minute. 50 kids who will never say "Grandpa, watch this!"

That's doesn't sit well with me. So I am going to try to do something about it! All proceeds from my fundraising events goes to Livestrong, the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Their cancer survivorship program is second to none. They give help, support and most importantly hope to people who have none.

My old friend Darren VanDreel gave me the suggestion that I should get in touch with you good folks at the Bay Shore Bike Club about getting the word out. Would it be possible to get on your calendar of events and also a mention in any emails you send out this week? That would be a huge help.

We've shown this both San Francisco and Minneapolis to great reviews from the cycling communities there. I'm looking forward to bringing it back to my home town this weekend!

Thanks for your time and help!

Bay Shore Bike Club BREAKING NEWS RELEASE

May 24, 2010

“Celebrate the Fox River Trail Pave-A-Mile Success ”

GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN – As of May 17, 2010, three years of hard work for the Friends of the Fox River Trail has resulted in an additional 4 miles of paved trail from Heritage Road in De Pere  to Lasee Road in the Town of Rockland.  In addition to the paving, a small shelter with a water station and brick patio has been added at Heritage Road.

Come to our party and celebrate with us:

        Saturday June 5, 2010
Fox River Trail at Heritage Road
        10:00 am

We will dedicate the commemorative bricks purchased by the individual donors to the campaign.

The money for the paving came from 4 different sources.
1.    Individual donors up to $3,000 each
2.    Broadway Automotive, Inc. gave a larger donation
3.    WI DNR matching grant for “Friends” of WI State Park organizations
4.    Federal Stimulus Transportation enhancement funds from the WI DOT.

Cliff Wall, president of the Friends of the Fox River Trail, said that he is very pleased with the group’s fund-raising efforts. “Thank you to everyone who worked and donated for this project, this was a community project from the start.”  said Wall.

Wall explained that donors to the project had a variety of options from an inch of asphalt to a whole mile.  Every donation made a difference. Those who bought two or more yards of asphalt will have their name engraved on special commemorative bricks, and ten yards or more will be honored with a larger square commemorative brick.

For more information, contact:

Note from Bay Shore Bicycle Club: Club members are invited out to this event because the Bay Shore Bicycle Club made a significant donation to the Pave-A-Mile program.

B-cycle Launches its First City-Wide System in Denver!

| By B-cycle Apr 26, 2010 | 8:38PM

This past Thursday B-cycle saw its first system launch, a city-wide bike sharing program in Denver. The response both in Colorado and across the United States has been incredible. We have received such warm wishes and the number of people who have expressed interest in getting B-cycle in their cities has been astonishing.
